Mount Meru Itinerary

Located in Arusha National Park, Mt. Meru is Tanzania’s second tallest mountain with an elevation of 14,980 ft. It is the fifth largest mountain on the continent of Africa. On this trek, you will sleep in the huts on the mountain that are provided by the National Park. It offers a great experience with little traffic and an abundance of wildlife.
Please make travel plans adding a day before the trek begins and a day after you leave the mountain. (Arrival day & Departure Day)
Day 1
Arrival Day: Kilimanjaro International Airport - Moshi
Karibu Tanzania! (Welcome to Tanzania!) Once you arrive at the Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) and make your way through customs, you will be greeted by your transfer team. From the airport you will be transferred to your overnight accommodations at the Chanya Lodge in Moshi.
Day 2
Trekking Day 1: Moshi to Momella Gate
Elevation gain: 5,240ft to 8,212ft - Hiking Time: 3.5 hours (8.6 miles)
After breakfast you we will load up and head to Arusha National Park where you will begin your Mount Meru adventure at the Momella Gate. The drive to the gate will take us about 2.5 to 3 hours. We will start the climb with a picnic lunch at the first hut called Miriakamba Hut, where we will also have dinner and spend our first night on the mountain.
Day 3
Trekking Day 2: Miriakamba Hut to Saddle Hut
Elevation gain: 8,212ft to 11,680ft - Hiking Time: 2.5 hours (3.8 miles)
After breakfast, we will begin the trek to the next camp, called Saddle hut. This is a steep part of the climb. In the afternoon, clients can choose to climb to Little Meru Peak and back for acclimatization and a spectacular view and then back to Saddle Hut for dinner and rest.
Day 4
Trekking Day 3: Saddle Hut to Summit to Saddle Hut to Miriakamba Hut
Elevation gain: 11,680ft to 14,980ft to 11,680ft - Hiking Time: 2-2.5 hours (3.4 miles)
We will wake up in the middle of the night and start our ascent to the summit at Big Meru Peak. We will then proceed to summit crossing a rocky path and then back to Saddle hut for full breakfast. From there we will descend to Miriakamba Hut where the rest of the day will be spent resting. Lunch, dinner and overnight will be at Miriakamba Hut.
Day 5
Trekking Day 4: Miriakamba Hut to Momella Gate to Moshi
Elevation gain: 8,212ft to 5,240ft - Hiking Time: 3 hours (8.6 miles)
After breakfast, we will descend from Miriakamba Hut to Momella Gate, where you will meet the transfer team and be transferred back to the Chanya Lodge in Moshi for the tipping ceremony, a hot shower and a good night's rest.
Day 6
Departure Day: Moshi to Kilimanjaro International Airport
If your time in Tanzania ends today, our team will make sure you are transferred to the Kilimanjaro International Airport for your departing flight. If you have booked and extended stay for one of our safaris or a day trip, we will be there to assist you in the next steps for your extended stay.

Included in Price:
• Airport Transfer - Transportation on day of arrival from Kilimanjaro Airport to hotel in Moshi and transfer back to airport on day of departure.
• Transfer to mountain - Transfer from hotel to Mt. Meru on the day of starting the climb and transfer back to hotel on day climb is completed
• Park Fees - All park entry fees, including sleeping hut fees and Mt. Meru rescue fees.
• Hotel Charges - This includes two nights- Day of arrival and one day after the climb. It includes bed and breakfast only.
• All meals on mountain - All meals while on Mt. Meru for 4 climbing days and 3 nights. Includes breakfast, lunch & dinner.
• Clean, purified water - Our guides make sure that you have clean, purified drinking water every day on the mountain to refill water bottles, bladders, etc.
• Emergency Oxygen
• First Aid/Medical Kit
• Oximeters - Our guides have oximeters to check clients oxygen levels as we ascend to higher levels of altitude to ensure health and safety during your trek
• Crisis Management - Our guides are trained and certified in crisis management and safety procedures

Not Included In Price:
• Flights- International and local flights to get to Tanzania
• Government Tax - VAT (Value Added Tax 19%) added to final pricing at time of booking
• International Transaction Fee - 3% added to final pricing at time of booking

• Extra Nights - Extra nights at the hotel or on the mountain. If trip is extended for any reason, you are responsible for those charges
• Personal Mountain Gear
• Sleeping bags - These can be rented once in Tanzania, but please let us know ahead of time.

• Laundry & Telephones - Any laundry or telephone charges is not included
• Travel Insurance - Travel Insurance is HIGHLY recommended for each individual in case any medical or other emergencies may arise during your trip to Tanzania. Please see our FAQ’s.
